When deciding whether shared or dedicated hosting would be better for you, you should first learn about each. Finding out what each type of hosting entails will help to make your decision on which is better for you much easier. So let’s take some time to investigate these two types of hosting in an effort to ascertain their differences.

Shared or dedicated hosting is available usually through whatever hosting service you subscribe to. But is one better for you than another, let’s see. Well, it is common knowledge that the most of the websites out there are hosted by shared hosting by a shared server. But there are some fine points that make dedicated servers look appealing.

In the question of shared or dedicated hosting, dedicated has many differences that are beneficial to a website owner. For instance, the person that chooses a dedicated hosting service will have their own personal server just for the use of their website. No sharing server space for them. This will allow the dedicated hosting subscriber to have plenty of room for their database and all their files. In other words, they won’t be set to such a stringent limit on data and file storage. They also will have a dedicated IP address for your site which is very coveted.

When considering shared or dedicated hosting and leaning towards shared, you can be assured that you will receive the same great service but, you will be using a server that is shared by many other websites. You will also have limits on your database and your file storage as all the other websites users on your site will also. But different servers will have different allotments on database and file storage for you to do comparative shopping on.

It is recommended by the experts though that you make sure exactly how many you share your server with so that you can check load. Also, with a shared hosting service usually you will not receive a dedicated IP address unless they offer it for an extra fee. But as some experts state this may be a good investment even if you have a shared hosting service to protect your website. Experts’ state, if another member on your server through some infringement looses his site that may run the risk of you loosing yours due to the shared IP address.

The one big difference between shared and dedicated hosting that all will find is in price. If you or your company don’t have issues with how much it cost for hosting service then you probably are a great candidate for the dedicated hosting service. But if you are on a budget then you should be aware that having a server dedicated to your websites needs only, may cost more so that may factor into the decision. Or if you’re just starting out with exposure on the Internet with your own website then you may wish to start with a shared until you totally perfect your website to your vision.

Internet sites have their own domain names which are basically their address in the World Wide Web highway. There may be several ways why people will register their domains in the internet and search for homes for sale in Boise, most of them for business purposes. However, there are times when people who want to reserve a domain are not interested in using their web address right away. The only way for them to reserve their domain without having to give it up or having to pay for monthly fees is to park their domain name. This arrangement is simply called domain parking.

There are a few services online which helps or allows a person to reserve or park a domain name for later use. This reservation can be used any time the domain owner is ready to use it. The thing with domain parking is that a lot of savings can be done by not having to pay monthly fees. The best thing is that the domain is still reserved for future uses. In simpler terms, this is can be compared to reserving a house and lot for future purchase. The reserved house and lot will not be sold to other people for a period of time.

Another way of possibly saving from this kind of arrangement is that there are now web hosting sites which make use of parked domains for advertisement publishing. This way, an underdeveloped site being still practically parked will have ads on its page, and this already allows the underdeveloped site to earn money. The domain resellers and other website hosting services make use of these parked domains by posting ads that earn while the sites are still not being used. There are even business plans regarding this issue that allows the owner to earn while having his or her domain name just being parked.

There is a popular term being used to describe the money making scheme that is used to take advantage of domain parking and that is monetization of parked domain names. There are now several web hosting companies which offer income for domain name owners who have their domain names parked under their hosting system. They take care of posting the ads which collect revenue as times passes, and they provide the domain name owners a percentage of the revenue being earned by the parked domains.

Nowadays having a website is really no longer the only way for a person to earn money. Even in little amounts, an investment such as domain reservation can grow just as long as one will take advantage of all the choices being laid out to him by legitimate hosting sites or hosting companies regarding domain reservation. One can even consider this kind of investment as a one-time investment since the only payment needed will be for the reservation of the domain name. The income generated is definitely more than the amount of money generated in the bank when one deposits his or her money in the bank.

The term “domain slamming” is derived from telephone slamming, where a subscriber’s telephone service is changed without their consent – a practice particularly prevalent in the USA and Britain, which is harder than oredering a custom wine rack.

Domain slamming has been rife for years, but people still unfortunately fall victim to the ploy. While it can be an uncommon practice with country code Top Level Domains (ccTLD’s) due to regulations in some nations, generic TLD’s such as those ending in com, net and org are heavily targeted; particularly com.

Domain slamming usually consists of a registrar different to the one currently managing a particular domain name on behalf of a registrant sending out a letter to the registrant that looks like a registration renewal.

The communication is in fact a transfer form that will allow that registrar to transfer the management of that name to their own service. Other services may be tacked onto the “renewal” that further increases the cost.

The term “transfer” may even be on the form in smaller print and noticed by those with a sharp eye or who are aware of the practice, but in some cases this may not even be stated or stated in such a way the average person has little chance of realising what will occur.

It’s not that the domain name is being “stolen” as such as the registrant still has access to it, but it’s still in effect an unauthorised transfer – much like finding that one month you are subscribed to one company for telephone services and the next month, another – without ever having consciously made a decision to change carriers.

The other troubling factor is given the acquiring registrar’s tactics; their service quality may reflect their approach to client “acquisition”. Additionally, during the unauthorised transfer, vital settings may be changed that can render a registrant’s web site and email non-functioning.

One of the safeguards implemented to improve security and help reduce the domain slamming problem was the “Registrar Lock”. Domain names with the lock enabled cannot be transferred until the registrant accesses their account and clears the lock.

Registrants of com names who live outside of the USA and Canada are by no means immune from receiving domain slamming letters from overseas services. It seems the strategy is successful enough that it makes it worth the offending registrar’s while to pay for the overseas postage.

To play things safe, registrants receiving such letters should always go directly to their own registrar’s web site in order to check whether their domain name does need renewing or to contact their registrar to determine the authenticity of the letter.

Nowadays it is almost impossible to avoid having a website if you want to reach a wide audience for your business or cause. By having a website, it makes it easier to spread any information and it is also easier for interested parties to contact you. However, not everyone who wants to have a website possesses large financial capabilities to host a site. Not many individuals are able to spend as much money as multinational companies on their site, so they usually seek out cheaper web hosting options such as shared hosting and exchange hosting. Shared hosting has been rather popular in the web hosting market among web owners are interested in having a reasonable site hosted for a reasonable fee. Like any other hosting plans available, shared hosting has its own set of shortcomings.

One of the common shortcomings users of shared hosting face is the limited features available for use. Compared to dedicated hosting where users have more freedom and options to the amount of add-on domains they want, shared hosting users face this limitation. As the fees of shared hosting plans are rather low, the amount of resources and freedom given to its users are rather limited. If you are planning to upgrade to better features, you should be prepared to fork out a good amount of money as upgrades could be costly. Therefore, it is important that users find a web host that provide sufficient features so that your site will run smoothly and efficiently.

Aside from its limited features, lack of reliability is another issue associated with shared hosting. As the web host hosts a large number of websites on one server, this means these sites of the same server will be sharing the resources provided by the web host. If the web host decides to overcrowd the server to maximise its profits, you may find your site running very slowly. Also, having to share the server with so many other sites increases your chances of being affected by security issues or blacklisting. If there were spammers on your server and they were to be caught, their IP address (which is the same as your IP address) could be blacklisted. Buggy scripts present in your server could also cause your site to crash. These problems could bring many inconveniences and you could lose visitors if these problems persist constantly.

Finally, you should be prepared to wait in line for technical support if your site ever experiences technical difficulties. Usually, hosting companies will prioritize higher paying clients before serving shared hosting clients. If you are one who places much importance on swift customer service, you may want to think twice before signing up for a shared hosting plan.

If you want a reliable web hosting, there is nobody else who can do a better job than this Joomla Hosting. Why? It is not only about their 99.9% uptime. They are much more than that. You should read more about the host.

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

Those who are aware of the terms “cloud hosting” and “web hosting” must be very well aware that the two most popular options for running a hosting server are Windows and Linux. Both have their advantages as well as disadvantages, but of the late, the advantages of Linux hosting are far outnumbering its disadvantages. That fact is confirmed by the growing number of users who are going in for hosting on Linux instead of Windows.

Here are some hard-to-ignore reasons why Linux hosting may be better suited to your business plans than hosting on Windows:

1. Cost effective- Linux is an open source platform, which means that developers from all over the world can make changes to it. The open source aspect of Linux makes it more cost efficient than Windows platform. Also, since it is open platform, there is no licensing fee involved, which contributes to the cost efficient aspect of it

2. Flexibility- Commercial platforms like the Windows are often restricted by its proprietary aspect which limits their compatibility. On the other hand, Linux being open sources, anybody is free to make changes to it, which makes Linux hosting that much more flexible in terms of solutions and compatibility.

3. Security- Ever since its inception, security has been the major talking point about Linux. Compared to Windows and other hosting platforms, Linux is the most secure of the lot. Given that websites are a crucial part of brand management today, the security aspect of Linux really makes it a preferred hosting solution for many.

4. Speed- Compared to other hosting solutions, Linux hosting also has the reputation of loading much faster. Given the paucity of time with most users and increasing impatience, faster websites mean better business. Along with being faster, Linux is also more stable, which means more up-time compared to other hosting platforms.

5. Growth- Being an open source platform, Linux has the ability to grow much faster compared in terms of features and computability compared to other hosting platforms. Reason being that developers around the world are constantly upgrading the platform to make it better, and solve commonly faced problems. Better growth of Linux makes Linux hosting a much more viable option than other hosting platforms. In fact, all the advantages listed above make this platform much more viable than other commonly available hosting platforms.

So you have created a website and you are ready to put it live on the internet. Well if you don’t already know you should understand that websites have to have their files hosted somewhere. You can host it yourself on your own pc but you have to have a specific internet connection and some firewall settings that if not set up properly can kill your computer. I would recommend using an external host when you are first starting out just so you make sure that everything is done right and you can later think about hosting on your own.

So who is the best host online today? Well that is a good question. You first need to understand what constitutes a good host. What exactly to you need and then who provides what you need the best? I for example I want people to come to my site so I will need a host that won’t shut down when a lot of people visit my page. I also want to have a email that shows myname @ mysite.com that way I look a little more professional then my competition who has a yahoo or gmail account. I would prefer to have a host that doesn’t cost me an arm and leg as well.

So once you have your specific criteria it will be easier to narrow down exactly what you want in a web host. Here are a few companies that I have looked into and I do currently use one of them.

The first company I use is mediatemple They charge me $20 per month for hosting and can handle up to 100 domains. I have 24 hr access to my files and rarely have down time. I have had up to 60,000 visitors in one day and the server handled it pretty good. I like this host and so far I plan on sticking with them for a while.

Another good host I hear about is Hostgator. I have never used them but they are much cheaper than mediatemple (I think around $9 per month). I think they have the same functionality as mediatemple but like I said I have never used them so I am not completely sure how they work.

The last company I have used before but don’t anymore is 3ix.org. They have cheap hosting around $12 per year which is nice but they can’t handle much traffic. If you want to play around with a site these guys are good simply because they will get you up online and if you start getting traffic later you can always transfer over later.

These are just a few web hosting companies I have used and would recommend. There are hundreds online today but the best way to pick one is to first decide exactly what it is you actually want and then find a host that fulfills the need.

The amount of disk space you have when you host your site or blog should not be taken for granted. Every image, HTML file, database, email message and log file that makes up your website will be calculated as part of your total disk space. As you may have discovered, many hosting companies offer unlimited plans that end up being very inexpensive. You could be wondering how they are able to offer so much for so little. The solution lies in the fact that they are not calculating the actual space you are taking up, but by what number of inodes that you are using. Remember all the images, HTML files, databases, and emails? Every one of them count as 1 inode. That may possibly seem like a draw back, but those files can be of any size.

Just what is an Inode?

From Wikipedia: “Inodes store details about files and folders, which can include file ownership, access mode (read, write, execute permissions), and file type.” In other words, it is a lot like the meta-data which is usually associated with photographs. For the benefit of keeping this article short, I will not go into detail about inodes. If you would like to learn more about inodes, I have provided a direct link to the wikipedia page. The link can be found at the end of this article.

Precisely what is my inode limit?

Every website hosting company gives you a maximum number of inodes that can be used. It might vary from as little as 50,000 inodes on up to 300,000 or more inodes per account. This is usually more than you’ll ever need. For anyone who is hosting a small to mid sized blog, you should never have to worry about running out of disk space. For all those in search of business web hosting, you’ll want to be careful. What most people don’t realize is that the inode allocation is applied for everything, including email. If you’re a company possessing a relatively small website, but you have lots of email accounts, pay attention to just how many emails you have. If ever you go over your inode limit, you might receive a nasty gram or worse. Typically, the best hosting solution for medium or large sites with lots of email, would be to stick with either the dedicated server or VPS (virtual private server) route. Here you possess more control over the amount of files you can have. Hint: You are only limited by the amount of disk space you pay for.

Going Over Your Hosting Inode Limit

Going over your inode limit may well be a nasty experience. Some web site hosting companies will send an email/letter warning you that you are near to using up your inode limit. For those who fail to act, you could have your account suspended or worse. Others start limiting certain services when you reach a given threshold. Still others will just suspend your account without warning until you remove files. Since I’m sure no one wants their site to go down, this is one thing you do not want happening.

Conclusion

When deciding on a web hosting company, be certain to read and understand their TOS, paying close attention to the usage section. In the event that they offer cheap hosting or are a free web host, they must describe in depth just what is an appropriate inode usage limit. They should also have what the consequences are for breaking that limit. Should you have any questions pertaining to their TOS, by all means contact them. They should have absolutely nothing to hide and really should answer any questions you might have.

Flipping domains is a quick and easy way to generate an income online from home. This is also a cheap way to get started because all you need is $10.00 to buy an Internet address and post it for sale on one of the many directories on the Web and wait for the offers to come in.

However, if you have a few more dollars to spare you may want to consider flipping aged domains because sometimes you can get up to four times what you paid for it from a sale. Aged domains are addresses that have been previously used online but were allowed to expire by their owners and are now available on the open market.

These domains are a little pricier because some of them already have existing traffic flowing to them and they may also have a reasonable page rank on the Web. If you decide to take this route here are 5 important things you should consider before buying an aged address:

1. As with most domain names the length is very important and it should consist of no more than two words. Any longer than this and your prospects have a difficult time remembering it and it lends itself to mistakes when being typed into the browser window.

There are exceptions to this rule but only if you are lucky enough to find a three word address that is keyword rich and easy to remember.

2. Speaking of keywords you should check the domain to see if it contains keywords relevant to Google searches. If it does this would make it much easier for your website to get ranked.

3. Always check an aged domain to find out if it still has existing traffic coming to it. If it does, this will substantially increase its value on the open market thereby making it a more attractive purchase for your prospects.

4. When you’re looking at the available aged domains list for sale try to imagine what the name could be used for by the buyer. For example, is it a brand able name or would it be better suited for a blog or a personal website?

If you can find a name that’s suitable for one or more of these types of websites it would make it easier for you to promote by suggesting these ideas in your sales copy.

5. Finally, before purchasing an aged domain always investigate to make sure you won’t be in violation of any trademark claims of existing companies by doing so. This is a headache no one needs especially if they decide to take legal action against you and your business.

You can create a nice income for your online home based business by flipping aged domains as long as you keep these 5 considerations in mind before buying.

ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) announced this past summer that it will begin to accept applications for new general top level domain names (gLTDs). There are currently 22 of these domains active (including .com, .org, .net, and .gov) and that number will begin to increase starting in the spring of next year. This change means that a company like Southwest could purchase .air or .fly, and Honda could be found online at Honda.car.

For this domain license, companies will have to pay a (nonrefundable!) $185,000 application fee. If approved, it will cost up to an additional $75,000 annually to maintain the new gLTD. While some companies may want to take advantage of this unique opportunity, many will be paying the hefty price tag simply to ensure others can’t buy the domains relevant to their product or service. The application process is to include a background check aiming to eliminate applicants with a history of domain squatting, as well as reviews to ensure the company and domain are a legitimate match. The high application fees would be used to fund the application review process, develop all of the new domains, and cover any legal fees resulting from companies who are not pleased with their application’s rejection.

Applications can be submitted to ICANN starting on January 12, 2012, and the review period will remain open and active through April 12, 2012. Large entities and corporations, Fortune 500 companies, and even cities and countries are most likely to take advantage of this initial application period.

What implications does this have for marketers and consumers? AdAge reviewed several effects: For marketers with large clients this likely involves being advised by IT and/or legal to purchase and reserve multiple gLTDs. Many companies will want to conduct research with these domains- everything from ways these new domains affect SEO to experimenting creatively with custom or personalized gLTDs. Consumers, especially those who are not very tech-savvy, will experience another element of confusion when trying to determine a website’s safety and validity. As such, the new gLTDs open many doors to those implementing frauds and scams online.

While this change will not likely have an impact on the supremacy or relevance of the .com gLTD in the near future, it will be a notable transformation of the URLs we are used to seeing and an important consideration for online marketing.

Flipping domains for fun and profit can be a great way to get started on the online money making journey road to success. But while many people are actually doing it with supreme results, few are telling you how it can be done. Perhaps they’re all too busy enjoying the lucrative side of the biz to worry with a how-to for those who might be interested. If so, don’t fret. There are many ways that you can get started immediately, and start seeing profit potential almost as quickly. First, you’ve got to start purchasing and/or creating domain names. What makes one successful? Where does the value come from? How do you add value if it’s not there yet? The answers to these questions lay ahead.

First of all, how can you find a good domain name for sale? The most common way that people do this is that they scour businesses and try to act out in front of them and get the domain that would make perfect sense for “naming” a company, or at least branding them properly. This requires a degree of research to learn the internal culture of the company as well as its strengths and weaknesses. What have they done thus far to promote their business? What things within the company can you “play off” to create an interesting domain name? Along with this, you may try simply creating your own domain first for a particular industry. Be creative before you take it to market, however.

The next thing you need to do is add value to the domain name you’ve purchased or created. Many times this means turning it into a somewhat successful site in its own rite. Get some quality content out there, play the search engine optimization games, and then when you are at the top of the Google pages, approach an interested buyer with a plan to purchase the domain at the price that you set. The reason many domain flipping businesses fail is that people have a tendency to underestimate the level of work involved. Particularly when it comes to adding value, they expect to just put up a “for sale” sign and the money to roll in. But there is much that you have to do behind the scenes in order for the domains to be successful owners.

Last but not least, pricing plays an important role in your success. With domain “flipping,” you may be tempted to take a low offer because it’s the only one on the table, but don’t be so quick to do so. The more you make from each sale, the better chance there is to succeed. Don’t sell yourself or your products short one little bit.
